Kaleigh Shannon in CSD wins USF Outstanding Staff Award

Kaleigh Shannon, Fiscal & Business Assistant in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders received the USF Outstanding Staff Award at a ceremony held earlier this month. Kaleigh has been the calm eye of the CSD transition storm. She naturally sees paths to efficiency and leads everyone else along the way. For example, she created a better flow for our Bolesta Center so that authorizing and scheduling patients is very smooth. So smooth, in fact, that we won't have to reauthorize anyone again until July, a small miracle. Kaleigh's unending drive toward efficiency of procedures has put the department ahead of CSD departments nationwide, all of which are making this transition to electronic billing and medical records systems. Kaleigh has participated in trainings outside of her job description and can now train others and fill in when needed. She has learned to work the reception area of the clinics, scheduling and receiving patients. We've had to lean on her a lot due to high turnover in clinic staff. Kaleigh noticed that patients who were not fluent in English were struggling to communicate. Kaleigh researched and installed a translation application on the clinic iPads to assist these patients when interpreters were not available. Finally, Kaleigh's sunny disposition has opened new lines of communication across campus. She was able to schedule the entire USF Grounds Department for an annual hearing test in one afternoon; previously this took months. Congratulations to Kaleigh!
