CBCS Research Coordinator Presents at the 2014 National Communication Association

Ardis Hanson, PhD, presented at the recent 2014 National Communication Association. She co-chaired the Roundtable "Reconstructing Risk and Crisis: How Academic Perspectives May Offer Practical Suggestions for Public Policy", sponsored by the NCA National Office, with fellow chairs Drs. Mariaelena Bartesaghi and Barbara Bennington. Respondents were noted Communication scholars: Drs. Matthew Seeger, Eric Eisenberg, François Cooren, Theresa Castor, and Lori Roscoe, to the NCA White Paper she and her co-chairs had prepared on this topic. She also presented, with Sheila Gobes-Ryan, "Designing healthcare spaces to support a "good death": A daughter's experience of the places of her mother's death", which examined the use of narrative in public policy. Her final presentation was "Agency and Recontextualization in Public Policy Texts", which examined how statutory language simultaneously constrains and expands interpretation of mandated activities.
