Congratulations to Dr. Debra Dobbs, the new Academic Director for the Center for Hospice, Palliative Care and End-of-Life Studies

 

Dr. Debra Dobbs, Associate Professor in the School of Aging Studies and affiliate faculty for the Florida Policy Exchange Center on Aging has been named the new Academic Director for the Center for Hospice, Palliative Care and End-of-Life Studies at USF.  

The Center for Hospice, Palliative Care and End-of-Life Studies began in 1996 and became formally recognized as a Center at USF in 2006.  The Center supports research and education with a partnership between USF's academic and medical researchers and community provider agencies. Some of the Center's community partners include Chapters and Empath Health, Tidewell Hospice, Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa General Hospital and the James Haley V.A. 

Dr. Dobbs has been a member of the Center since 2006, and of the Executive Committee since 2013. She has been a mentor for a number of the Center’s graduate assistants. Dr. Dobbs also holds a leadership position as the Vice Chair for the Social Research Policy and Practice Section of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA).  Within GSA she recently was the Convener for the Hospice, Palliative and End-of-Life Interest Group. She is also a member of the Palliative Care Research Collaborative, funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research.
