Two CBCS Faculty and Doctoral Student to Present at the 2013 International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics World Congress in Seoul, Korea
William Kearns, PhD, Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counseling, Nan Sook Park, PhD, Social Work and Tuo-Yu Chen, a PhD student in Aging Studies, will attend the 2013 International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics Next World Congress in Seoul, Korea from June 23-27. Travel to the conference was made possible by International Travel Grant Awards from the USF Division of Sponsored Research.
Dr. Kearns will give a presentation about tele-surveillance for falls in ambient assisted living facilities. This presentation will give an international audience the findings concerning a new method of predicting falls in the elderly from small changes in their movement patterns as they engage in normal daily activities.
Dr. Park will be presenting two papers at the congress. One is focused on an empirical typology of social networks and physical and mental health among Korean older adults. The second paper is about understanding decisions not to volunteer among Korean older adults.
Mr. Chen received a grant to present a poster on prospective predictors of falls and recurrent falls among community-dwelling older adults with cancer.
