USF's Third-Annual Youth Day for Children/Teens who Stutter, their Families, and SLPs

On Saturday, February 26, 2011, NSSLHA-USF and the National Stuttering Association will co-host USF's Third-Annual Youth Day for Children/Teens who Stutter, their Families, and SLPs. The event will feature a CEU workshop for SLPs/parents, and activities for the kids, on the same day in USF's Marshall Center.

For the CEU workshop, Vivian Sisskin (Clinical Instructor at U. Maryland; Coordinator for ASHA's Special Interest Division 4) will discuss how Cognitive Behavioral Training (CBT) principles can be incorporated into speech therapy, as well as into the home environment, in order to help older kids/teens regulate their emotions in response to stuttering. Parents/caregivers will be able to attend Vivian's CEU workshop alongside SLPs (Vivian will provide a basic educational overview of stuttering for the parents before discussing CBT principles).

For the Youth Day activities, we will provide fun workshops for children/teens who stutter aimed at 1) letting them know they are not alone and 2) helping them sharpen their skills for coping with stuttering.
