2013 SRI@FMHI Student Receives Honors

Nicole McBride, a student in the 2013 Summer Research Institute at the Florida Mental Health Institute (SRI@FMHI), recently received several honorsfor her research. Working with research mentors Blake Barrett, Kathy Moore, and Larry Schonfeld of the Deptartment of Mental Health Law & Policy, Nicole received the SRI@FMHI Outstanding Research Scholar Award for her study titled "The Role of Positive Alcohol Expectancies in Underage Binge Drinking Among College Students."  In March 2014, her poster presentation at the Southeastern Psychological Association conference in Nashville, earned the Psi Chi Regional Research Award, and the manuscript based on the study was accepted for publication in the Journal of American College Health.  Nicole will graduate in May with honors with a B.S. in Psychology from Florida State University. She also won the Phi Beta Kappa Alpha Chapter of Florida, Marion Jewell Hay Award. This award recognizes the top student graduating this term at FSU as determined by their Phi Beta Kappa chapter and is based on the student's academic record and scholarly work. Following graduation, Nicole will begin employment as a research assistant at Rothman Center for Neuropsychiatry, Department of Pediatrics, USF St. Petersburg, gaining additional research experience before applying to doctoral programs.
