Kwang-Sun Cho Blair Receives $999,000 grant from U.S. Department of Education
Funding will address state-identified needs to improve the quality and increase the number of personnel locally who are fully credentialed to serve children with disabilities and behavioral challenges.

CBCS Restructuring Plan
Over the past several months, we have been working on a plan to reorganize the departmental/school structure of the College of Behavioral & Community Sciences. The restructuring process involved the faculty and staff of the Department of Aging and Mental Health Disparities, the Faculty Council, the USF Senate Executive Committee, and the USF System Advisory Council. Following approval by the Provost, the faculty and staff in the Department of Aging and Mental Health Disparities will join other BCS departments.
Intensive Workshop on Youth Suicide Prevention: September 13 & 14
The 2-day workshop will provide participants with the latest research-based information and help them plan a comprehensive, public health approach for suicide prevention.
Textbook Authored by CBCS Faculty Published into Chinese
The textbook, Physical Change and Aging: A Guide for the Helping Professions, Fifth Edition, was authored by Sue V. Saxon, PhD, Professor Emeritus in the School of Aging Studies, Mary Jean Etten, Ed.D, adjunct faculty in the School of Aging Studies, and Elizabeth Perkins Ph.D, RNMH, Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Child & Family Studies.
Richard Weinberg, Ph.D. to Join Department of Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counseling
After 20 plus years of service in the Dean's Office including a leadership role for the APA pre-doctoral internship program, Dr. Weinberg is set to join the Department of Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counseling.
Assistant Professor Alison Salloum Receives 3 Year NIMH Grant
Dr. Alison Salloum, Assistant Professor, USF School of Social Work, Department of Pediatrics, was awarded a 3-year National Institute of Mental Health R34 grant to develop and test the feasibility of a novel Stepped Care Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) intervention for young children with significant post traumatic stress symptoms.

Helping Reduce Crime in Gulfport: MACJA Graduate Chief Robert Vincent
Gulfport Police Chief Robert Vincent said he's not surprised the total number of crimes dropped from 2009 to 2010. "I think the biggest thing was we re-focused the mission," Vincent said. "Instead of just answering calls, we put officers out there under direction. They need to solve problems."

CSD Faculty Discuss Stuttering and "The King's Speech"
A new film promises to increase awareness about a condition that affects millions of Americans – stuttering – or stammering as the British call it. And experts on stuttering from the University of South Florida and the local National Stuttering Association chapter are scheduled to be part of a panel discussion on the topic following a special screening at the Tampa Theatre Dec. 30 following the 7:30 p.m. screening. The film opens on Christmas Day.
