CBCS Strategic Initiative Update

February 2018

In the January Strategic Initiative Update, I summarized our progress in the student success area of promoting timely progression to degree completion. This month I will outline progress in another strategic initiative related to our research.

One of our research objectives under Goal 3 is to continue the positive trajectory of contract and grant funding to support research and evaluation projects.

. Discussions have begun to see if there is interest in sharing faculty expertise across units and potentially setting up a Statistics and Methods core with a jointly funded faculty leader and staff support.

. The Research Council is finalizing a plan and timeline for supporting internal and external reviews and support as an optional part of proposing federal grant applications. Research Council members are announcing the availability of support for this initiative.

. We are leveraging state grants to help attract federal grants as exemplified by the PCORI grant proposal by Teague et al. and by the IES grant by Kincaid et al.

. The Research Council is exploring incentives, while Sponsored Research is continuing to reward large proposals and inter-college proposals with RIA funding.

. The Research Council will continue to monitor whether recipients for internal grants are successful in submitting proposals and winning grant awards.

. Mentoring program plans for each of the units have been submitted for review by the Dean.

Thank you again for reading our strategic initiative update. The March edition will highlight our progress in another strategic initiative related to community engagement.
